This directly contradicts the entire ending. In his POV, which externalizes all his thoughts, he is constantly worried about the protagonist, Lisa, and details how he wants to do everything he can to save her. In the very beginning of the book there is a section dedicated to father-in-law Frank's POV. This is meant to be a shocking revelation, and it IS, but only because it makes no sense.

We basically find out that the protagonist's father-in-law is responsible for everything that happens in the book. The biggest issue I had with novel though has to do with its 'twist' ending.

It reminded me a bit of Garth Ennis' Crossed series - hurling so much unrelenting depravity at the reader that it loses its impact fairly quickly and starts to become a slog of 'what messed up thing can I throw at the reader now?!' Almost like how, if you say a word enough times it loses meaning, the 150th time Gonzalez details someone having sex with some dead persons orifice you just become numb to it all. In this case, it wasnt) the entire book felt pretty nonsensical and verging on 'edge-lord' territory for me. Besides being confoundedly littered with tons of spelling errors and fractured sentences (which I can forgive if the story is compelling enough. Given its notoriety, and my fondness for disturbing literature and splatter-punk horror, I decided to give it a read. Whenever people broach the subject of 'disturbing' and 'taboo' horror novels, 'Survivor' is one of the books that seems to make everyone's list.
